My baby loves to eat my face. I would like to think that she is trying to give me sweet kisses, but the reality is, she is like one of those suckermouth catfish with her mouth stuck to my face instead of a dirty aquarium, sucking anything I have on it.
I am already super paranoid about everything that touches my baby or anything my baby may put in her mouth. As much as possible, I purchase everything organic and chemical-free to ensure that my baby doesn’t get any unnecessary toxins in her little body. Thus, if my baby is touching my face with her hands or her face, or if she is actually eating my face, I want to make sure that I am doing my part as a good mom and using safe products on my face. One option, of course, is to not put on any skin care products. I already do not wear make-up as it is, but I do truly believe in moisturizing. So, unless I want to look like a Chinese Shar-Pei at the ripe age of 40, I have to use some kind of skin care products.
One day, my friend and Beautycounter consultant Jennifer Johnson introduced me to Beautycounter products. As a fellow mom, she has similar concerns about what is touching her baby’s body and wants to spread Beautycounter’s mission of getting “safer products into the hands of everyone.” I was skeptical at first because there are so many beauty and skin care brands out there that claim their products are “safe”, but after looking into Beautycounter further, I was impressed. Beautycounter offers full disclosure of all their ingredients and bans “the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through [their] Never List” (you can learn more about the Never List here).
Now the big question is, are the products effective? Without the chemicals that other skin care brands have been using, how do the products perform?
Jennifer graciously sent me some samples and the results are great! Here are some highlights:
Nourishing Cream Cleanser: This ultra-gentle daily cleanser cleans without drying. It leaves my skin feeling so refreshed, like a breath of fresh air.
Nourishing Day/Night Cream: I absolutely love these moisturizers. The creams go on smoothly, not greasy or oily at all, and my face feels hydrated the whole day.
Nourishing Rosewater Mist: What a quick way to refresh your skin, especially during dry winter months! I love to keep it in my diaper bag for a nice pick-me-up during the afternoon when I am out with the kids and do not have time to reapply moisturizer. The scent is quite lovely.
Hydrating Face Oil: I was skeptical of this product at first because I would have imagined putting oil on my face would cause breakouts and an overall greasy feeling. However, the face oil helps my skin feel soft and locks in the moisture. I apply it right after cleansing my face and then use the day/night cream on top for an extra boost of hydration.
