5 Gift Ideas for Busy Dads

My husband is the epitome of a busy dad. As an attorney, he works almost every day until past midnight and gets up no later than 6 AM because our toddler is an early riser. He tries to spend as much time before work with our kids, then off to a busy day of work he goes. We don’t see him until around 7 PM, when he rushes back to put our toddler to bed. Some days, he has networking events at night after work, so he doesn’t get home until past 9 PM. We try to spend at least half an hour together, eating dinner and chatting about our day, before he jumps back on the laptop again.
When it comes to Valentine’s Day, a romantic dinner or a day out to a ball game is not happening. Taking time away from his work for a day would only mean that he gets more stressed out later on as he tries to dig his way out of his gigantic workload. That gets me thinking… How can I give him the gift of TIME?
Here are some ideas I came up with:
1. Amazon Echo
My husband has gotten so tired that he literally fell asleep while setting his alarm on his phone. He woke up the next day with an iPhone imprint on his cheek. Amazon Echo’s Alexa Voice Service could act as his personal secretary, and he could use hands-free voice control to schedule his meetings, add tasks to his phone, and make sure that he wakes up in the morning. Moreover, it would allow my husband to get a break from the laptop and phone screens. Shop here.
I do all the grocery shopping for the family, but there are some items that I don’t keep a close eye on, such as my husband’s razor blades. Then one day – usually a day when he has an important meeting with a client – He runs out, which means an emergency trip to the closest drug store. Who has time for that? Harry’s delivers quality razors and shaving products at an affordable price right to your mailbox at the shipping frequency you prefer. No more risk of showing up at meetings like a cave man! 3. Proper Cloth
Custom dress shirts mean going to the store, picking out the style you like, having a tailor take your measurements, and returning to the store at a future date to pick up your custom shirt. Proper Cloth allows you to order custom dress shirts online using their sizing algorithm with tons of style options to choose from (for example, the type of button you would like). Proper Cloth even comes with a perfect fit guarantee so that if somehow the shirt does not fit to your liking the first time, they will alter and remake it. Shop here.
4. Portable Phone Battery Charger with Charging Cable Keychain
Marc’s job requires him to be on the phone all day long. Thus, when the battery runs out, he sometimes has to wait by the charger to get his phone back up and running again. I wonder what seems longer, watching the paint dry, watching a pot of water boil, or watching the battery icon on the phone fill up? Anyhow, having a portable charger such as this one around means he could charge the phone on the go and a dying phone would not delay him from any meetings or coming home on time ever again! Shop here for the charger and here for the keychain.
Ah, the simplest but hardest gift of all time. Marc is the type of person who cannot operate optimally without 8 hours of sleep a night, even though most nights he is averaging around 3-4 hours. However, with two young kids, a house full of chores, and being sleep-deprived myself, I find it very difficult to take the kids out of the house first thing in the morning and let Marc get some extra hours of shut-eye. However, for Valentine’s Day, I will dig deeper and muster up both mental and physical strength to give my husband the gift that I know he wants the most… Sleep.
Giving the gift of time is not easy. Even the most expensive of gifts could only generate minutes, if not seconds, of free time on my husband’s schedule. Short of going to law school and helping him with his work, the only thing I could do is find ways to make his life a little less busy and give him the gift of time to have fun with kids, work a little more, or catch up on precious sleep.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
